AI and AI

This is the ONLY story I am writing that uses AI. It's being done for a very SPECIFIC PURPOSE (see below). I spent over thirty years in academe collaborating with 100+ colleagues and research students to publish textbooks, journal articles and conference papers. I believe that such collaboration is very positive. I also believe in synergy - that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. So can the same be achieved with fiction writing? But this time by "collaborating" with AI.

Here's the story...

Mars Rendezvous

A giant alien ship, imagined in the image below, heads to Mars to strip it of silicates and minerals. Governments, agencies and corporations on Earth all create missions to journey to the planet to make contact with these extraterrestrials. Unbeknownst to them, there are no living beings on the ship, it is crewed entirely by bots. Over thousands of years the ship has travelled the galaxy hunting for resources to refurbish and improve itself. Along the way, when it has encountered intelligent life forms, it has collected a sample and stored them in cryobanks. Will humans suffer the same fate? And if so, which ones?

The Alien Ship

The Role of AI

I am using AI to write each of the mission stories. These narratives would all be very similar, but with the help of AI another dimension can be added. Each mission will be written in a different genre. The New India mission is straight-forward sci-fi.  Mission Pink is a romantic love triangle for the crew members. Space Now! is written as a 1940s detective mystery. The Russian mission is a ghost story. The Chinese mission is propaganda.

The only part of the story that is not written with the help of AI concerns the aliens. I like the irony of  this. AI helps write the stories about humans, and a human writes the story about AI enabled bots.

I appreciate that I would have to acknowledge this and that I would probably have to self-publish. The enjoyment of writing it this way, may well outweigh any downside.
